Wynona Rose Grandel

Wynona Rose Grandel, 78, of North Platte, NE, passed away Saturday, July 19, 2014, at Bryan East Hospital in Lincoln, NE. Wynona was born April 3, 1936, to Elmer F. and Rose E. Bowker at Haigler, NE. She grew up in Big Springs, NE where she graduated from high school in 1954. Wynona worked in a cafe owned by her parents and that is where she met her future husband, Edward Lee Grandel. On February 12, 1956, Wynona and Ed were married in Big Springs and made their home there until moving to North Platte in 1962. Wynona continued to work as a waitress at Perkins for many years. She was a member of the First Christian Church where she was very active and involved with several support groups. Wynona was a loving wife, mother and grandmother and a special friend to many. She will be missed by her husband of 58 years, Ed, and their son, David (Joni) Grandel, all of North Platte; four grandchildren, Chris Grandel, Zach (Sarah) Grandel, Zane (Sarah) Grandel and Amanda Grandel; her step grandchildren, Samantha and Cody Murrain; 10 great-grandchildren, Alex, Gracie, Jaicen, David, Hanna, Carson, Gage, Bailey, Cole and Adam; her brother, Merl (Mary) Bowker, of Duluth, MN; two sisters-in-law, Clara (Serge) Dragutin, of California and Doris Bowker, of Julesburg, CO; many nieces, nephews and other family and her many special friends. Wynona was preceded in death by her daughter, Rhonda Murrain; her parents, Elmer and Rose Bowker; four brothers, Lloyd, Beryl, Warren and Gary Bowker; and a brother-in-law, Bob Grandel. Funeral service will be 10 a.m. Wednesday, July 23, 2014, at the First Christian Church with Pastor Timothy Adams officiating. Burial will follow at 11 a.m. (MT) in the Big Springs Cemetery. Visitation will be from 8:30 a.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Odean Colonial Chapel at C & Sycamore. Condolences may also be shared at odeanchapel.com. Memorials are suggested to the First Christian Church.
