Winnie Dolph

Winifred Lucille Dolph, 67, of North Platte, NE, passed away Wednesday, October 14, 2015, at Great Plains Health. Winnie was born November 20, 1947, at Turlock, CA then adopted by Virgil and Lucille Dolph. Winnie grew up in Santa Cruz, CA where she attended school and graduated from high school in 1965. She then received an Associate of Science Degree in Radiology in 1968 and thus began her career in health care. After working as an X-ray technician in California Winnie moved to Oregon to work in a Veteran's Hospital and continued her education. She received an Associate Degree in Nursing then a Bachelor of Science Degree in Nursing in 1983 and continued to work in Rehabilitation at a Veteran's Hospital in Portland. In 1991 Winnie moved to North Platte with her parents where she worked in the dialysis unit at Great Plains Regional Medical Center. In 1996 Winnie became a nursing instructor at Mid-Plains Community College and taught until 2013 when her health declined. During this time she was able to further her career by working on her Master's Degree in Nursing at Clarkson College, which she completed in 2001. Winnie had spent her life devoted to advancing the health care for others, whether it be through her own nursing skills or in teaching. Winnie had been baptized in the Presbyterian Church as a child and in June 2015 became a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Stapleton. Winnie not only cared for people but she loved animals as well, especially dogs. She was active with Paws-itive Partners and the animal shelter. She was a member of the North Platte Kiwanis, Eagles Auxiliary, American Legion Auxiliary, Does Drove and was Worthy Matron of Idlewild Chapter #18 Order of Eastern Star in 1972. Winnie was also a past officer in the Nebraska Nurses Association. She leaves behind her faithful companion, Thor, and her other K-9 friends; cousins, Janice (Ernie) Mehl and Chuck (Linda) Kirk, of North Platte, Ken (Joan) Kirk, of Denver, CO, Ruth (Carroll) Smith, of Park Forest, IL, and Eldon (Lynn) Laidig and Fausta Walker, all of Arvada, CO; other family and her many close friends. Winnie was preceded in death by her parents, Virgil and Lucille. Cremation was chosen. Memorial Service will be held in the South Campus McDonald-Belton Theater at Mid-Plains Community College at 6 p.m. Thursday, October 22, 2015. Inurnment will be in the Danbury-Marion Cemetery in Danbury, NE at 3 p.m. Sunday, October 25. In lieu of flowers, memorials are to the Paws-itive Partners. The memorial book may be signed at odeanchapel.com or from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Wednesday at Odean Colonial Chapel at C & Sycamore which is in charge of arrangements.
