Sydney Okoye

S ydney O koye peacefully passed away at home in North Platte, NE, on March 24, 2025, at age 74, following a long battle with cancer.

Sydney was born April 4, 1950, in Nigeria, to Ernest and Agnes Okoye.  He grew up in Nigeria then moved to Nebraska to attend college.  He earned his Bachelor's Degree and later, his Master's Degree in Arizona. Sydney worked in sales and was a business owner.

On July 22, 1977, Sydney married Naomi Neufeld in Lincoln, NE.  They lived in Omaha, St. Louis, MO, Nigeria, then back to Nebraska, settling in North Platte.

Sydney was a man of faith and family.  He was a member of Christ Holy Church in Nigeria and Bethel Evangelical Free Church in North Platte.

He was preceded in death by his parents and siblings, Evelyn, Magnus and Donald and Mercy.

Sydney leaves behind his wife, Naomi; daughters, Amanda Okoye (Kali McCarthy) of New York City, Cynthia Carter (Rickie) of Fontana, CA, and Dacia Okoye of Los Angeles, CA; son, Brian Okoye; grandchildren, Adalyn and Alayah Carter; his brother, John Okoye of Cleveland, OH; and other family.
