Sam Napier

October 4, 1943 — January 27, 2025

Charles "Sam" Napier was born October 4, 1943, in Detroit, MI.  He passed away at Great Plains Health in North Platte, NE, on January 27, 2025, at age 81.

The son of Thomas and Juanita Napier, Sam grew up in Kentucky where he graduated from Warren County High School in Bowling Green.  He attended York College in Nebraska then enlisted into the U.S. Army Reserves and served in Vietnam.

Sam married Jean Keesling and they made their home in Kansas.  After his discharge, he returned to Kansas and later married Cherie Markstrom on August 10, 1973, in Oklahoma City.  Since Sam was an over the road truck driver, they lived in many different places until retiring to North Platte.

His work took him all around the country, which was perfect for his adventurous soul.  In his free time, Sam loved riding his motorcycle.  He also loved his family and was known to be firm but fair.  Sam was a good man and will be greatly missed.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Gayle Napier; and sister, Louise (Mickey) Rouse.

Sam leaves behind, Cherie of North Platte; daughter, Kathy Lopez (Antonio) of Arizona; stepson, Jimmy Whetsell (Deanna) of Texas; his sisters, Celeste Ross (Mike), Nellda Porterfield and Beverly VanDusen; sister-in-law, Grace Napier; his good friend, Donnie Hartman of North Platte as well as 5 grandchildren, 9 great-grandchildren, and other family.

In keeping with his wishes, cremation was chosen and there will be no services.  Online condolences may be shared at odeanchapel.com.  Odean Colonial Chapel at C & Sycamore is in charge of arrangements.
