Ruth Gambs

November 23, 1932 — April 28, 2016

Ruth 'Queenie' Gambs, age 83, of North Platte, NE, passed away Thursday, April 28, 2016, at Methodist Hospital in Omaha, NE.

Ruth was born November 23, 1932, in Waukegan, Illinois to Jurgen and Jeannette Rasmussen. She graduated from Holy Child High School in Waukegan in 1950 and furthered her education at Mount Mary College in Milwaukee, graduating in 1954 with a degree in Education.

Queenie was united in marriage to Richard Worden on August 11, 1956, in Waukegan, IL. After his passing, she married Robert Gambs, on April 26, 1975, in North Platte.

Ruth was a long time faithful member of the Episcopal Church of our Savior in North Platte, teaching Sunday school, serving on the Vestry, Parish Life committee and Altar Guild. She taught third grade for 20 years at Lincoln and Osgood schools in North Platte, retiring in 1997. She made many special friendships while teaching in North Platte and maintained those up to the time of her passing. And as an avid bridge player she never passed up an opportunity to play an afternoon game.

In 2003, Ruth helped launch the North Platte Bulletin newspaper. She managed subscriptions and assisted with advertising for more than 13 years.

Her family is what Queenie cherished most. She enjoyed annual trips into the North Woods (YOHO!) of Wisconsin and Milwaukee to spend time with her children, grandchildren, sisters, nieces and nephews.

Ruth was the biggest supporter of her children and absolutely adored her grandchildren. She always had a smile on her face, a funny story to tell, and
an ear to bend. Her sense of humor, quiet strength and grace will be missed so much by her family and friends.

Survivors include children, Ann (Kent) Worden Clements, of Lake Quivira, KS, James (Amy) Worden, of Omaha, Carol Worden Gambs, of North Platte, and John (Kori) Worden, of Omaha; grandchildren, John (Jennifer) Clements, of Lenexa, KS, Mary Grace Clements, of Seattle, WA, Julia Clements, of Kansas City, MO, Katherine Worden, Michael Worden, John Worden, Isabella Worden and Sophia Worden, all of Omaha, Nicholas (Kasia Dowhower) Gambs of Kearney, NE; great-grandchildren, Emily and Ryan Clements, of Lenexa, KS, Cash Gambs, of North Platte and Cruz Gambs of Kearney, NE; sisters, Lainy (Karl) Plinke, of Sturgeon Bay, WI, and Jean (Bill) Campbell, of Palm Harbor, FL; brother-in-law, Nick (Maggie) Gambs, of Aurora, CO; sisters-in-law, Lois (Bill) Lazeration, of Necedah, WI, and Dolly Worden, of Ft. Worth, TX; and many nieces, nephews and other relatives.

Ruth was preceded in death by her parents, Jurgen and Jeannette Rasmussen; husbands, Richard Worden and Robert Gambs; brother and sister-law, John and Phyllis Rasmussen; and stepson Nicholas Gambs.

Cremation was chosen.  Memorial Service will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday, May 5, 2016, at the Episcopal Church of Our Savior with Father Jeffrey Nelson presiding.  Ruth's cremains will be placed in the Columbarium in the Resurrection Atrium of the Episcopal Church of Our Savior.
