Ronald Jenkins

Ronald Jenkins, age 92, of North Platte, died at home on Thursday, November 8, 2018.

Ron was born February 10, 1926, to George and Hulda Jenkins at Dickens, Nebraska. He grew up on the farm and attended Dickens School, graduating from Dickens High School in 1943. Ron proudly served our country during World War II. He served in the Pacific Theater and was honorably discharged from the U.S. Army in May of '46.

On September 15, 1946, Ron was united in marriage to Francine Preitauer in North Platte. They farmed near Ingham, Nebraska for a couple years before moving north of Dickens in 1948 where they ranched and he worked as a carpenter for 51 years. After Ron and Francine retired they moved to North Platte. The couple had four children and were married for over 62 years when Francine died in 2009.

Ron was a member of the Elks Club, Eagles and American Legion. He loved ranching, his cattle and working with his hands. He enjoyed playing pool and cards, pitching horseshoes, and dancing with his wife. Ron was a great husband, dad and grandpa, and a kind, social person.

Ron is survived by his children, Roger (Deanna) Jenkins, of Johnson Lake and Janine (Mike) Layher and Debbie (Brad) Bear, of North Platte; seven grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; as well as many nieces and nephews.

Along with his wife, Francine, Ron was preceded in death by their infant son; his parents; and brothers, Howard, Jack and Dale.

Funeral service will be 10 a.m. Tuesday, November 13, at Odean Colonial Chapel at C & Sycamore with Gary Smith officiating. Burial with military honors will follow in Fort McPherson National Cemetery. Visitation will be 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday with family greeting friends from 5 to 7 p.m. at Odean Colonial Chapel at C & Sycamore, which is in charge of arrangements.
