Having earned the rank of Colonel, he later served as Chief of Staff of NORAD in Colorado Springs, CO. Returning again to civilian life, Richard continued to work in ranch risk management in his company Ranch America and served a term as President of the Colorado Cattleman's Association. In 1987 Richard married Sheryl Van Gundy at Denver, CO. They worked and traveled together throughout Colorado, New Mexico, Oklahoma, Texas and Costa Rica. They had many happy adventures together.
