Pete Herrada

Pedro 'Pete' Herrada, 83, of Hershey, NE, passed away surrounded by his family on Saturday, August 29, 2015, at Great Plains Health in North Platte, NE. Pete was born February 23, 1932, to Jose and Maria Herrada at Castorville, TX. The family moved to Pearsall, TX in 1941 when his father bought a shoe shop and did custom boots and shoe repair. Pete helped his father in the shop until 1950 when he traveled to several other states doing labor jobs. On December 13, 1952, Pete married Anita Cuellar and they had six children. The Herrada family settled in Hershey where Pete started working full time for Fred Kuroki in 1961. When Fred moved his business to Texas Pete continued to work on the potato farm for George Kuroki for many years. In 2000 he went to work for Butch's Steakhouse as a part-time backup cook then retired in 2008. On July 3, 1993, Pete was united in marriage to Juanita Deane Grove Benson at Maria Lutheran Church in Hershey. Pete was a member of St. Patrick's Catholic Church. He enjoyed cooking, playing musical instruments and pitching quarters. He liked to play shuffle board and shoot pool as well. Pete enjoyed working with his hands doing woodworking and making lawn ornaments. He also loved to fish and barbecue with his family. He is survived by his wife, Juanita, of Hershey; his children, James (Shannon) Herrada and Stella (Brent) Larreau, all of Hershey and Pete Herrada, Jr., of San Antonio, TX; daughter-in-law, Donna Herrada, of North Platte; half brother, Raul Tennerias, of Pearsall, TX; and half sister, Marouca Tennerias, of San Antonio, TX. Survivors also include 11 grandchildren, Marcella (Jason) Frame and Brandon (Rochelle) Herrada, of Hershey, Kandace Torres, Jonathan Herrada and Joshua (Lucinda) Herrada, all of North Platte, Lane (Sarah) Larreau, of Erickson, NE, Beth Summers and Lori Summers, of Portland, OR, Cameo Herrada (fiancé, Joe Lewallen), of Columbus, NE, Lindsay Larreau, of Parker, CO, and Mandi (Kyle) Praeuner, of St. Paul, NE; 10 great-grandchildren, Ann, Gabe, Ben, Sam, Kale, Tyrease, Kynzlie, Carver, Mia and Keoni; and numerous nieces, nephews and other family. Pete was preceded in death by two sons, Rolando and Simon Herrada; a daughter, Carmen Summers; brother, Bernardo Herrada; sisters, Valentina Herrada Gonzalez and Margarita Herrada Hewitt; sister-in-law, Luiz Herrada; and his parents, Jose and Maria. Cremation was chosen. Memorial Service will be 10 a.m. Friday, September 4, 2015, at Odean Colonial Chapel at C & Sycamore with Father Jim Golka officiating. Inurnment will be later in Floral Lawns Memorial Gardens. The memorial book may be signed at odeanchapel.com or from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Thursday at Odean Colonial Chapel at C & Sycamore which is in charge of arrangements. In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to the Hershey Senior Center.
