Penny Melstrom, age 66, of Lexington, formerly of North Platte, died at the Lexington Regional Health Center on Saturday, December 1, 2018.
Penny was born on October 19, 1952, at Goodland, Kansas to Vilas and Madelyn Claar. As a child the family lived in several states. Penny later earned her GED from Ogallala High School.
Penny was married to Darrell Melstrom, they had a son and later divorced. She married again and that relationship also ended in divorce. After living in Ogallala for a number of years, Penny and her son moved to North Platte in 1982. She eventually moved to Lexington due to her health. She had worked as a waitress in Ogallala, North Platte and Colorado and was a past member of the Eagles Auxiliary #2839.
She is survived by her sisters, Margie Cranmer, of North Platte and Orena and husband, Ken Hammeke, of Larned, Kansas; brother, Ray and wife, Myrva Claar, of Battlefield, Missouri; grandson, Bryan and wife, Tiffany Melstrom, of North Platte; great-granddaughter, Zowie Melstrom; niece, Keri and husband, Bryan Lynn; nephew, Jeff Hammeke; her caregiver and best friend, Linda Norman, of Brady; and other family.
Penny was preceded in death by her son, Gregory "M&M" Melstrom, her father, Vilas Claar; and mother, Madelyn Jarvis.
Cremation was chosen and inurnment will be in the North Platte Cemetery. Online condolences may be shared at odeanchapel.com. Odean Colonial Chapel at C & Sycamore is in charge of arrangements.
