Paul Edwards

Paul Edwards, 76, of North Platte, died unexpectedly at Great Plains Health on Tuesday, May 12, 2020.

Paul was born in Elk City, OK, to Lacey and Anita Edwards on August 22, 1943. He grew up in Texas, Perryton and Pampa, then after he finished school he enlisted in the U.S. Army. Paul was in the military for over 5 years and served in Vietnam.

Following his discharge in ‘68, he returned to Texas to work in the oil fields. He later worked for horse tracks in Ohio and fell in love with the Kentucky Derby. Paul eventually moved to Nebraska where he worked on the Gerald Gentleman Station.

Paul met Jacqueline Brown and the two were married in Spearman, Texas, on April 14, 1977. He and Jackie lived in North Platte then moved to Texas where Paul went back to work in the oil fields. From there they relocated to Tempe, AZ, and he did janitorial work. After the Edwards family returned to North Platte in 1985, Paul worked for the City of North Platte for the next 22 years until retiring at the end of 2011.

Paul was a life member of the V.F.W. Post #1504 and a member of P.R. Halligan Post #163 American Legion. He enjoyed hunting and fishing and going to casinos with Jackie. Paul was a great husband, father, and grandfather and loved being a great-grandfather.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Lacey and Anita; sister, Suzanne LeGrange; and brothers, L.H. and Bobby Edwards.

Paul is survived by his wife, Jackie, and daughter, Julie Peterson (friend, Steve Vargas), all of North Platte; son, Paul (Marina) Edwards, of Willowick, OH; granddaughter, Whitney Edwards, and great-grandson, Hadley Paul Roberts; sister, LaJean (Frank) Tyk, of San Antonio, TX; and other family.

Cremation was chosen.  Memorial Service will be held at 2 p.m. on Friday, July 10, 2020, at Odean Colonial Chapel at C & Sycamore.  Inurnment with military honors will follow in Fort McPherson National Cemetery.
