Mary Johnson

M ary J ohnson, age 72, of North Platte, died at Great Plains Health on February 24, 2021.

Mary was born January 14, 1949, to Andy and Freda Anderson in North Platte and went on to graduate from NPHS in 1967.

Mary worked hard all her life. From 8th grade through her senior year, she worked for Ellett's Taste Treat then went to work for Sixth Street. In 1971 she moved to Denver, CO, and worked at Rite Aide Drug Store before returning to North Platte in '75 and going to work at Sands Motor Inn. In 1978 Mary was employed by Austin Industry to work at the Gerald Gentleman Power Plant. Two years later the company relocated her to continue working construction in other states.

On September 2, 1978, Mary was united in marriage to Carlyle Johnson in Denver and the couple settled in Loris, SC. Mary was later employed by Lowe's for over 10 years then became a care giver for her mother-in-law. She returned to North Platte in 2014 to be closer to her family.

Mary was a member of the White Savannah Free Will Baptist Church in Conway, SC. Mary enjoyed cooking for church and family dinners and liked gardening and canning.

Survivors include her son, C.J. Stone, of Seattle, WA; stepchildren, Lance (Debroh) Johnson, of Italy, Greg Johnson, of Jamestown, WA, Priscella (Jamie) Benton and Patricia (Jimmy) Thomas, of Conway, SC, Cindy Chauvie, of Ashville, NC, and Micele Johnson, of Loris, SC; grandson, Seth Johnson, of Seattle, WA; 9 step-grandchildren, Nickey, Kasey, Brad, Ashley, Terri Michelle, Samantha, James, Jr., Shelly and Jenie Marie; and step great-grandson, Trey.

Survivors also inclued her brother, Herbert (Terry) Anderson, of North Platte; sisters, Chloe Anderson and Bonnie (Don) Johnson, of North Platte, Patricia (John) Bryant, of Tryon, NE, Phyllis (Michael) Williams, of Olathe, KS, and Hilda Wright, of North Platte; brothers-in-law, John Johnson, Jr., of Conway, SC, and Elwood (Theresa) Johnson, of Tabor City, NC; sister-in-law, Sarah (Jody) Johnson, of Loris, SC; as well as many nieces, nephews and other family.

Mary was preceded in death by her husband, Carlyle; parents, Andy and Freda Anderson; and sister, Freda Kreber.

Cremation was chosen and at Mary's request there will be no services. Condolences may be shared at odeanchapel.com. Odean Colonial Chapel at C & Sycamore is in charge of arrangements.
