Mary Farmer

Mary Berneice Farmer, age 93, of North Platte, NE, died Friday, February 19, 2016, at Linden Court in North Platte.

Mary was born August 3, 1922, at Anselmo, NE, the first of eight children, to James  and Nellie Powers. She grew up and attended school in Anselmo then graduated from Milburn High School in 1941 with her brother, Bill.

Mary later moved to Lingle, WY to work for her aunt and uncle. While in Wyoming Mary met Eldon Cooper 'Pappy' Farmer and they were united in marriage on April 8, 1944, at Grant, NE. They lived in Grant, Broken Bow, NE, then returned to Grant where Mary worked at a bakery and helped cook for the harvesters. She also helped at the North Platte Canteen during W.W.II.

In 1953 Mary and Pappy moved to Ogallala, NE. Mary was employed by Goodall Electric and worked as a line supervisor until 1961 when they moved to North Platte. Mary then worked for W.T. Grants and Woolworth's. She also worked in the Housekeeping Department at Great Plains Regional Medical Center and Linden Manor until she retired. Mary was a member of Our Redeemer Lutheran Church and in 2010 she moved to Linden Court.

Survivors include her two sons, Adelbert 'Tuck' (Joan) Farmer, of Stapleton, NE, and Gary (June) Farmer, of North Platte; three grandchildren, Theresa Farmer, of Tryon, NE, Letitia 'Tish' (Craig) Dailey, of North Platte and Chad (Heather) Farmer, of Stapleton; two great-grandchildren, Logan (Alisa) Dailey, of Valentine, NE, and Colton Dailey, of Spearfish, SD; a sister, Lois Schmid, and brother, Patrick Powers, both of Broken Bow; and many nieces, nephews and other family.

Mary was preceded in death by her husband, Pappy, in 2006; her parents, James and Nellie Powers; a brother, Bill Powers; four sisters and their husbands, LeVerne and Bernard McCorville, Patty and Leo Ryan, Betty and James Tully and Delma Powers; and brother-in-law, Leo Schmid.

Funeral Service will be 2 p.m. Tuesday, February 23, 2016, at Odean Colonial Chapel at C & Sycamore with Pastor Robert Weist officiating. Burial will follow in the McCain Cemetery, southeast of Stapleton. Visitation will be 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday at Odean Colonial Chapel at C & Sycamore which is in charge of arrangements.
