It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Mario Joseph Gonzales, who departed this life on June 30, 2026, at the age of 72, after a courageous battle with cancer. Born on March 24, 1954, in Alliance, Nebraska, Mario was a beacon of strength, love, and resilience to all who had the privilege of knowing him.

Mario was preceded in death by his parents, Alex Rincon Gonzales and Margaret Marin Gonzales; his brothers, Lawrence "Speedy" Gonzales and Tim Gonzales; his niece, Nikki; and his nephew, Andy.

For four decades, Mario worked for Union Pacific Railroad. His dedication to his profession was a testament to his steadfast character and strong work ethic. Beyond his career, Mario's true calling was his family. He found immense joy in spending time with his children and grandchildren, creating cherished memories that will forever live in the hearts of those he loved. Mario's quick wit and infectious laughter could light up any room he entered.

Mario is survived by his beloved wife, Leigh.

He also leaves behind his children, Felicia (Ron) Christensen of Denver, Colorado; Raquel (Robbie) Christensen of Cheyenne, Wyoming; and Mario (Cecelia) Gonzales of Cheyenne, Wyoming, who were his pride and joy. He is also survived by his stepchildren, Cornya (Nick) Clemmons of North Platte, Nebraska; Aimee (Lance) Knoedler of Kearney, Nebraska; and Justin Haas of North Platte, Nebraska, whom he loved as his own.

Mario is also survived by his siblings, Ernie (Mary) Gonzales of Greeley, Colorado; Linda Gonzales of Milliken, Colorado; and Lola (Bob) Colwell of Fort Collins, Colorado.

His legacy continues through his many grandchildren and great-grandchildren, who brought him endless joy. Mario's warmth and kindness also extended to his many nieces, nephews, and extended family members, all of whom held a special place in his heart.

Mario found happiness in the simple pleasures of life, especially the time he spent with his family. Whether it was a lively family gathering or a quiet moment with a grandchild, he embraced every opportunity with gratitude, love, and an open heart.

As we bid farewell to Mario, we celebrate a life well lived and honor the lasting impact he made on everyone who knew him. His memory will forever be a source of strength, comfort, and inspiration—a testament to a man whose love knew no bounds.
