L oewayne was born April 8, 1938, to Carl and Verda Thompson in North Platte. She died at age 85 on September 25, 2023, in North Platte after a long battle with Alzheimers.
Loewayne grew up in North Platte alongside her sister, Nancy. When the girls were young they loved to dress the dogs, Twinkle and Blondie, up in doll clothes and pull them around in their wagons. During her early teen years, Loewayne played softball on the Eagle Teeners team and was an avid player. She passed her love of the sport on to her sons.
Loewayne attended Roosevelt Elementary School, Adams Jr. High and North Platte Senior High. On October 28, 1953, she married Billy J. Brown in Ogallala and had four sons, Douglas, Donald, Dwayne and Darwin. They lived in Marysville, KS, Laramie, WY, then moved back to North Platte in 1967.
Loewayne was a stay at home mom when the boys were young. Once they were all in school she went to work for Little Pig Diner at Westfield, then Sears and Roebuck, the Gas Stop, and later for the North Platte Telegraph in the circulation department.
She loved dogs, gardening (her favorite flowers were petunias and pansies), her Bunco club, decorating for all the seasons and holidays, and finding treasures at auctions and garage sales.
Loewayne was preceded in death by her husband, Billy, and their sons Doug and Darwin; her parents; half-brothers, John "Johnny" and Everett Thompson; brothers-in-law, Richard Ridder and Leonard Brown; and sister-in-law, Carleen Tenpenny.
