Laurine Thompson

October 22, 1919 — August 31, 2019

Laurine Thompson, age 99, of North Platte, passed from this life into the arms of Jesus whom she loved on Saturday, August 31, 2019, under hospice care.

Laurine was born October 22, 1919, in Arnold, Nebraska to Ralph and Lilace Williams. Laurine was the 12 th of 13 children consisting of 8 sisters and 4 brothers. Her mother passed away when she was just 7 years old so that left 5 of the youngest siblings in the care of 2 yet to be married sisters for the next 3 years until her father remarried. Ralph lived in Muskegon, Michigan at that time and the 3 younger girls went to live with him and their stepmother for 4 years and then they returned to Nebraska where each lived with married sisters and finished grade school.

For high school, Laurine went to live with an older brother and his wife in Colorado where she attended school through the 10 th grade. She then began doing house cleaning for a farm family near Brush, Colorado for a few years before returning to North Platte.

On September 14, 1940, Laurine married John Thompson of North Platte, a young man she met through a sister. They were blessed with 5 children, Larry, Sandra, Carl, Steven and Robert, and enjoyed 65 wonderful years together before Johnny passed away in December of 2005. Laurine and Johnny owned and operated Johnnies Custom Pack in North Platte for many years and were well known in the community.

Laurine was a member of the North Platte Berean Church since 1944. She served many years and into her 80’s in the nursery there and was very involved in women’s missionary groups. Laurine was a prayer warrior to the max, constantly holding her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, family and many more before the Lord in prayer. Where would we be without that constant prayer for us?

Along with her husband, Johnny, she was preceded in death by their infant son, Carl; her parents, Lilace and Ralph Williams; all of her siblings; and infant grandson, Joshua Ryan.

Laurine is survived by her children, Larry (Margret) Thompson of Marion, Iowa; Sandra Musser of Kenneth City, Florida, Steven (Vicki) Thompson of Norwood, Missouri and Robert (Sally) Thompson of North Platte; grandchildren, Randy (Melva) Northey of Hershey, Troy (Patricia) Musser of Seminole, Florida, Mark (Tami) Thompson of Marion, Iowa, Kurt (Lorie) Thompson of Lakeville, Minnesota, Josselyn (John) Smith of Le Claire, Iowa, and John (Staci) Thompson of Highlands Ranch, Colorado; 7 great-grandchildren and 6 great great-grandchildren; and many other family members.

The family would like to extend a special thanks to the people of Linden Estates who have made these last years so nice for Laurine.
