LaRae Attebery, 88, of North Platte, passed away peacefully with her family by her side on March 7, 2026, at The Maples at Centennial.
LaRae was born on August 8, 1937, in North Platte, Nebraska, to Ralph and Irene Brandt. She graduated from North Platte High School in 1955. On February 3, 1958, she married Delmar Attebery in North Platte, where the couple made their lifelong home. They were blessed with two children, Kris and Gary.
Following high school, LaRae worked as a secretary at North Platte High School. She later spent more than 30 years working for LG Balfour/Dick Thompson.
LaRae had a deep passion for the arts and for Girl Scouts. She taught numerous evening courses at Mid-Plains Community College and served as a Girl Scout leader and trainer for more than 50 years. Through her dedication, she formed many lifelong friendships and positively impacted the lives of countless young women who were part of her troops.
She was also a devoted Nebraska volleyball fan. LaRae and Del held season tickets for more than 30 years and rarely missed a home game until traveling became too difficult. If a Nebraska sporting event was on television, LaRae was watching.
LaRae was preceded in death by her husband, Delmar; her parents, Ralph and Irene Brandt; her brother, Randy Brandt; her in-laws, Dorl and Lila Attebery; and brothers-in-law Jerry Attebery and Frank Aldrich.
She is survived by her children, Kris Attebery and Gary (RoxAnne) Attebery, all of North Platte; her beloved grand puppies, Boots and Rudy; her sister, Maris Aldrich of Helena, Montana; her niece, Tammy (Mike) Buntjer of Anchorage, Alaska; her nephews, Rod (Jen) Brandt of North Platte and Rod (Shelley) Attebery of Stockton, California; and her sister-in-law, Mary Claire Attebery of Stockton, California.
Cremation was chosen. Friends may sign the memorial book on Thursday, March 12, from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., with family greeting friends from 4 to 6 p.m. at Odean Colonial Chapel at C & Sycamore, which is in charge of arrangements.
A graveside service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, March 13, at Ft. McPherson National Cemetery. Guests are encouraged to wear their Husker volleyball gear in her honor.
Online condolences may be shared at odeanchapel.com. In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to Girl Scouts.
