Kendlyn Kay “Kendy” Herrick, 69, of North Platte, Nebraska, passed away on August 6th, 2026, and will be remembered for the love she had for her family, the things that brought her joy, and the many memories she created throughout her life.

Kendy was born on September 8, 1957, at St. Mary’s Hospital in North Platte to John Cecil Leeds and Ella Maude Winters. She grew up in Tryon, Nebraska. Growing up she enjoyed chasing coyotes in the truck and attended McPherson County High School where she graduated in 1975. She later attended Mid-Plains Community College.

On July 20, 1986, Kendy married the love of her life, Kimberly Herrick, in North Platte. Together, they shared a life that took them to several places, including Denver, Colorado; St. Johns, Arizona; West Pittsburg and Sacramento, California; Houston, Texas; and eventually back home to North Platte, Nebraska. Kendy worked in several different occupations throughout her life, including as a truck dispatcher, bookkeeper, and receptionist.

Kendy also attended Bethel Church in North Platte, Nebraska for many years before she was physically unable to do so. No matter where life took her, though, her greatest treasures were found in the people she loved.

She had a creative and adventurous side that could be seen in the things she enjoyed. Kendy loved making porcelain dolls, scrapbooking, shopping and thrifting, and caring for dogs and cats. She found happiness in the little things like creating something with her hands, finding a special treasure while thrift shopping, and spending time with the people and animals that brought her so much joy.

Above all, Kendy was a mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, wife, sister, and friend. Her family was an important part of her life, and she leaves behind generations of people who will carry her memories with them.

Kendy is survived by her husband, Kim Herrick of North Platte; daughters Brandy (Greg) Eklund and Amber Knox; grandchildren Anne Schlaefli, Ryssa Schlaefli, Caleb (Megan) Knox, Jacob Knox, Brooklyn Knox, Sage Eklund, and Tanya Shopbell; and great-grandson Wesley Knox. She is also survived by her brother, Don (Charlotte) Leeds; sisters-in-law Tandi (Rob) Ashburn and Tawni Stewart; brother-in-law Rocky (Tamie) Herrick; as well as extended family and friends who were fortunate enough to share in her life.

She was preceded in death by her parents, John and Ella Leeds; siblings Sandy (Phil) Parsons and Del Leeds; her son, Chance Herrick; and grandchildren Colton, Faith, and Trinity Shopbell.

Kendy chose to be cremated, with no viewing, and her remains will be saved by her family.

The people who loved Kendy will remember her not simply by the dates of her life, but by the moments in between—the laughter, the memories, the things she created, the places she called home, and the love she gave to her family. Her life became part of the lives of those around her, and that part of her will remain with them.

She will be loved, remembered, and deeply missed.
