Joy Adkisson

Joy Adkisson, age 71, of Sutherland, passed away surrounded by her family on Friday, July 31, 2020.

Joy was born in North Platte to George and Hazel Himmerite on March 9, 1949. She grew up between North Platte and Hershey and graduated from North Platte High School in 1967. She then attended Beauty School in North Platte and later received her CNA license. Joy moved to Sutherland in 1997.

Joy loved her family, especially her cat, Scott, who was her pride and joy.

She was preceded in death by her parents, George and Hazel Himmerite; and uncle, John Effenbeck.

Joy is survived by her children, Kimberly (Kenneth) Hicks, of North Platte and Toni (Marie) Venzor and Todd (Crystal) Adkisson, all of Sutherland; grandchildren, Nathan, Shane and Stephen Adkisson, Mia Lopez, Andrea Venzor and Lukas Davis; great-granddaughter, Rose Adkisson; sister, Pam (Mike) Brosseau, of North Platte; aunt, Lila Effenbeck, of North Platte; nieces, Alicia (Nate) Shirley, of Maywood, and Amber (Aaron) Sundberg, of Lincoln; and great nephew, Colin Sundberg, who called Joy "The Cookie Lady"; as well as her cat, Scott, and other family.

In keeping with Joy’s wishes, cremation was chosen and there will be no services. The memorial book may be signed online at odeanchapel.com. In lieu of flowers, memorials are to Paws-itive Partners. Odean Colonial Chapel at C & Sycamore is in charge of arrangements.
