Jo Ann Michaels

J o A nn M ichaels was born January 18, 1950, to Clyde and Emma Powers in North Platte, NE.  She was 75 years old when she passed on February 27, 2025, following health complications.

Jo grew up in North Platte and Kansas City, Kansas, then returned to North Platte in 1982.  On October 31, 1991, she married Byron Michaels.  The couple later divorced but remained friends.

Jo was a stay-at-home mom then in later years she worked at the Elms Lodge until retiring.  She loved her family, especially being a grandma, and enjoyed spending holidays with them.  Her hobbies were quilting, scrapbooking, dancing and collecting things.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Clyde and Emma Powers; sisters, Hollis Miller, Margie Mora, Ruth Soto and Randie Powers; her infant brother, Kenneth, and brothers, Donnie and Leo Powers; grandsons, Jason Heldstab, Joey Lipinski and Bodenn Snyder; daughter-in-law, Sandra Decker; and her friend, Byron Michaels.

Jo leaves behind her children, Angela Mora, of North Platte, Herbert Decker, of La Cygne, KS, and Tod (Mindy) Heldstab, of Bismarck, ND, Sherry (Gary) Coon of Papillion,  Bobbi (Mark) Brouwer of Galena, IL, and April (Scott) Schroeder, of Pierre, SD; her brothers, Larry Powers, of North Platte and Tommy Powers, of Clearwater, FL; as well as 21 grandchildren, 28 great-grandchildren, and many other family members.

Celebration of Jo's life is 1:30 p.m., Monday, March 10, at Odean Colonial Chapel with Pastor Wesley Harman officiating.  The memorial book may be signed at odeanchapel.com or prior to services at Odean Colonial Chapel at C & Sycamore, which is in charge of arrangements.  Memorials are to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
