Jim Larsen

January 7, 1954 — August 23, 2025

Herbert James “Jim” Larsen, age 71, of North Platte, Nebraska, passed away on August 23, 2025, as a result of an automobile accident.

Jim was born on January 7, 1954, in Oregon City, Oregon, to Lester and Vivian (Leymaster) Larsen. He grew up in Broken Bow, Nebraska and graduated from Broken Bow High School in 1973. After high school, Jim worked at the Becton Dickinson plant and joined the National Guard, serving for over 10 years.

Jim’s post high school years included his marriage to Gerri Clay, and together they welcomed a son, Kyle. Though the marriage later ended, Jim loved Kyle dearly and cherished spending time with him and, later, his family.

On May 9, 1981, Jim married Colleen Kay Jeffers in North Platte, where they made their home and raised two sons, Micah and Jeremy. Jim began working for Union Pacific Railroad as a Carman, eventually advancing to Car Foreman before retiring in 2015. Never one to stay idle, he continued working after retirement, transporting mail.

Jim had a deep appreciation for the outdoors. He loved watching the wildlife in the field behind his house. He especially enjoyed scenic vacations and trips. He could never sit still long and was always doing something around the home to keep himself busy. He was also one to help anyone that needed it.

Jim was preceded in death by his parents, Lester and Vivian Larsen.

Jim is survived by his wife of 44 years, Colleen; sons, Kyle (Sheri) of Omaha, NE, Micah of Riverside, CA, and Jeremy (Carolyn) of AZ; brothers, Leslie (Judy) of Sidney, NE, and Ted (Deb) of Colorado Springs, CO; sisters, Linda Jezbera of Merna, NE, and Mary Mihm of North Platte, NE; and grandchildren, Sidney, Henry, and Claire.

A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, September 12, 2025, at Harvest Christian Fellowship, with Pastor Jeremy Rinke officiating. In keeping with Jim’s wishes, cremation was chosen. Odean Colonial Chapel is serving the Larsen family and assisting with arrangements.

In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to Harvest Christian Fellowship.
