Jerry Weir

G erald 'Jerry' Weir, age 80, formerly of Hershey, Nebraska, died at his home in North Platte on January 14, 2022.

Jerry was born to John and Ethel Weir on May 20, 1941, at Sutherland where he grew up. After graduating from Sutherland High School in 1959, Jerry moved to Denver to work. He then moved to North Platte where he worked at the Tomahawk Truck Stop and McKay Motors until hiring on with the Union Pacific Railroad in 1967. Jerry started as a Pipefitter and worked until retiring in 2002.

On December 26, 1962, Jerry was united in marriage to Carol Clark in North Platte and they made their home in Hershey. They raised five children and were married for 55 years when Carol passed away.

Jerry served with the Hershey Volunteer Fire Department for 15 years. He loved playing cards, fishing, gardening and going to coffee with his friends. Jerry especially loved his family and enjoyed watching his grandkids in their sporting activities. He had a heart of gold and would do anything to help others.

Along with his wife, Carol, Jerry was preceded in death by his parents, John and Ethel; brother, Edward Weir; sister, Kathleen Dikeman; and brothers-in-law, Lane Dikeman, Marlin Clark, Dwight Siebler and Gene Jameson.

Jerry is survived by his children, Terry (Lisa) Weir, of Wahoo, Myron (Stephanie) Weir, of Hershey, Greg Weir, of Charlotte, NC, and Jed (Trisha) Weir and Brenda Anderson, of North Platte; his brother, Roger (Deborah) Weir, of Ohio; sisters-in-law, Verlaine Weir, of Wallace, Betty (Larry) Smith and Caryn Siebler, of Omaha, and Virginia (Terry) Tyma, Mabel Clark, Dona Jameson, Erma Johns and Sandra Clark, all of North Platte; as well as 14 grandkids, 10 great-grandkids and many other family.

In keeping with Jerry's wishes, cremation was chosen. Memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, January 19, 2022, at Odean Colonial Chapel with Pastor John Sexson officiating. Inurnment will follow in the Riverside Cemetery at Hershey. The memorial book may be signed at odeanchapel.com or at Odean Colonial Chapel at C & Sycamore, which is in charge of arrangements.
