Jerry Remus

October 4, 1950 — October 17, 2024

Jerry L. Remus, 74, peacefully passed away on October 17, 2024. He was born October 4, 1950, to Grant and Lela (Dale) Remus and was raised on the family ranch in Wellfleet, Nebraska. There, he learned the values of hard work and perseverance while farming alongside his father and uncle.

After graduating from Maywood High School, Jerry attended UNK before returning to the farm. He tried his hand at working for the railroad but eventually found his calling in the automotive industry.  In 1999, after 22 years at Denny Mogis Chevrolet, he purchased the dealership and renamed it Jerry Remus Chevrolet-Cadillac. He also owned and oversaw operations at the local Toyota dealership. For Jerry, work was more than just a job - it was his passion. His son joined him at the dealership in 2005 and now owns and oversees all operations at both stores, continuing his dad's business legacy.

Jerry's first marriage blessed him with a daughter, Stacee. In 1981, he married Peggy Kugler.  Together they had a son, Garod, and shared 43 wonderful years in North Platte.

Jerry was an active and beloved member of the North Platte community. He was known for being down to earth, quick with a joke and was passionate about being a steward of the land he loved. Despite his demanding career, Jerry always made time for his family and friends. His close friendship with Dr. Gary Conell spanned over 50 years, filled with hunting trips, fishing excursions, and countless poker games shared with Jerry's father and other close friends. Jerry never missed his weekly poker game, where his bold raises and well-timed bluffs kept everyone on their toes. His poker group will forever miss the good-natured ribbing he brought to the table.

Jerry had a quick-witted sense of humor, and his smile and laughter could instantly warm your heart. He had a rare gift for making everyone feel at ease, lifting spirits with his genuine, humble and kindhearted nature. He valued integrity deeply; if someone gave him their word and kept it, that person had his full respect. To Jerry, a handshake and a promise meant more than any contract ever could. He will be remembered for his generosity and kindness, always giving so much while asking for so little in return.

Jerry was preceded in death by his parents, Grant and Lela Remus; his uncle, Kurt Remus; brother-in-law, Ron Bourne; mother-in-law, Wilmadeen Cramer; and his infant daughter, Nicole.

He is survived by his wife Peggy; his daughter, Stacee Baker (Randy); son, Garod Remus (Danielle); grandkids, Meranda Sutch (Sam), Kayla Sampietro (Jason), Savanah Prater (Josh), Randall Baker (Samantha), Treyton Nichols, Ben Nichols, and Grace Remus; seven great-grandkids; his sister, Sheri Bourne-Collins (Dave); sisters-in-law, Mickee Neely (Mike), Patricia Ratliff (Greg); brother-in-law, John Kugler (Gwen); his aunts, Muriel Yonkers (Carl) and Marlene Piernicki; close friends, Dr. Gary Conell and his card buddies; and many nieces, nephews, other family and friends.

Visitation is Friday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. at Odean Colonial Chapel, where the casket will remain closed. A private burial for family members will take place.  Celebration of Jerry's life will be held at 1 p.m. on Saturday, October 26, at the Berean Church with Pastor John Stone officiating.
