J eremy H artley ( K héya W ichása), the son of Lonnie and Patricia Hartley, was born May 2, 1972. He passed away unexpectedly at Great Plains Health on September 17, 2024, at the age of 52.
Jeremy was born in Fairbanks, Alaska, and grew up in North Platte. After high school, he moved to Illinois for a while then returned home and married Kimberly Rudd. They made their home in North Platte and had a daughter, Araya, whom Jeremy raised. The couple later divorced.
Jeremy loved learning new things and was a man of God. He became a member of the Lakota Tribe where he was known as "Turtle Man" and later, studied Hebrew. Jeremy was a volunteer and member of the Hebrew Torah Center in North Platte. He not only studied religion, he practiced his faith, was always kind and helpful to others, and never met a stranger.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents.
Jeremy leaves behind his parents, Lonnie and Patricia Hartley, daughter, Araya Hartley, and grandmother, Alice Steel, all of North Platte; brothers, Joshua Hartley (Amber) of Grand Island, Jared Hartley (Jolene) and adopted brother, Michael Ormesher of North Platte; his special friends, Rick Harms (Melissa) of Sutherland and Justin Baugher and William Hill (Laura) of North Platte; father figure, Kevin Chusic, and Lakota sister, Bonita; as well as other family and friends.
Service will be 1 p.m., Tuesday, September 24, at the Hebrew Torah Center. Burial to follow in Floral Lawns Memorial Gardens. Visitation is 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday at Odean Colonial Chapel at C & Sycamore, which is in charge of arrangements. In lieu of flowers, memorials are to the family.
