Janice Gentry, 83, of North Platte, died at the Lincoln Heart Hospital on Thursday, June 20, 2019.
Janice was born September 25, 1935, to Dewey and Laura Day. She was the 7th of eight children and grew up on the family farm, east of Kearney. Janice attended a rural one room school through 8th grade then went on to graduate from Kearney High School in 1953. Following graduation she was employed as secretary to the manager of NE Continental Telephone Company.
On January 21, 1956, Janice was united in marriage to Boyd Gentry in Kansas. Since Boyd had a contract to teach in North Platte, the couple moved there and Janice continued working as a secretary, this time for the manager of Northwestern Public Service Company until 1960. The next 20 years were spent as a homemaker as she raised four children. By 1980 Janice returned to work at Northwestern, this time as a clerk. She resigned her position in 1993 to go fishing with 'Slug'.
Janice was an active member of Messiah Lutheran Church and the Circle. She spent many hours volunteering at Great Plains Regional Medical Center, enjoyed playing bridge and loved spending a lot of time with her grandkids.
