J ames R ay M oore joined Jesus in Heaven on December 2, 2024. When he was born April 19, 1933, he weighed only 2 pounds and was not expected to survive, but God had his hand on James from birth and gave him 91 years.
James grew up in Columbus, OH, and worked at Owens Illinois Glass Factory for 18 years. He served in the U.S. Army from 1953 to 1955 and was stationed in Germany.
On February 7, 1953, James married Betty Cupp. They welcomed five children and were married for nearly 72 years. In 1976 the couple settled in North Platte.
James worked at Prem Door and the Opportunity Center for several years. He finished his career as Pastor at West End Chapel, preaching for 32 years. His true love was Jesus. He loved Jesus and would tell everyone about Him. James followed where he was led and was a faithful servant. God had a purpose for James, and when he arrived at Heaven, we can only believe that God said, "Well done."
James loved animals (he even had a pet squirrel named Perry and raccoons named Susie and Bandit) and had a special place in his heart for his dogs. He also loved fishing and hunting and shared stories of going hunting with his dad to his children and grandchildren.
He is survived by his wife, Betty of North Platte; daughters, Peggie Robinson of North Platte and Pennie (Matt) Martinez of Sutherland; sons, James (Sheryl) Moore of Hershey, Jackie (Nettie) Moore of Columbus, OH, and Johnnie Moore Sr. of North Platte; his sister, Frances Kelly of Columbus, OH; 16 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; and 2 great great-grandchildren.
James was preceded in death by his parents, James O. and Laura Moore; brother, Robert; brother-in-law, Jr Kelly; son-in-law, Alvie Robinson; grandson, TJ Moore; a great-granddaughter and great-grandson; and his beloved dogs, Saddles, Hods, JJ, Coco, Sissy and Buddy Ray.
Services will be at noon on Friday, December 6, at Odean Colonial Chapel with Willie Roberts presiding. Burial with military honors will follow at Fort McPherson National Cemetery.
Visitation is Thursday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. and with family greeting from 4-6 p.m. at Odean Colonial Chapel at C & Sycamore, which is in charge of arrangements. Online condolences may be shared at odeanchapel.com.
