J ames G odeker was born November 22, 1932, at Sutherland, NE, to John and Dorothy Godeker. He peacefully passed away on February 28, 2025, in Grand Island at the age of 92.
James grew up in Sutherland where he graduated from high school in 1950 then worked as a bell hop at the Pawnee Hotel in North Platte. In 1953 James enlisted into the U.S. Air Force and proudly served until his honorable discharge in 1957. He returned home and went to work at a grocery store, working as produce manager and later became store manager. After retiring he moved to North Platte and worked at Huebner's.
James was married to Dona Ward and they raised their family in Sutherland. He was a member of the Sutherland American Legion and loved reading and being around people, especially his family and grandkids. In 2014 James moved to Grand Island to be closer to his son.
He was preceded in death by his parents and siblings, John Godeker, Marjorie Rothemeyer and Peggy Land.
James is survived by his son, Jim Godeker II (Krista) of Grand Island, and daughter, Kathy Fuss of Peoria, AZ; as well as numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren and other family.
Graveside service with military honors is 1 p.m., Friday, March 7, at Fort McPherson National Cemetery, south of Maxwell. Prior to the service, family will greet friends from 11 a.m. until noon at Odean Colonial Chapel in North Platte.
