Jack Wellington Wilcox passed away on July 4, 2025, at North Platte Care Center in North Platte, NE at the age of 93.
Jack was born in Lincoln, KS to Claude "Mike" Wilcox and his wife Olive on Oct. 13, 1931. After graduating from Lyons High School, Jack enlisted in the U.S. Navy and served as a dental assistant in San Diego, Calif. for four years. During his time there, he met Alice Wood and married her in February 1954. The couple moved to Kansas once Jack was honorably discharged from his military service, where he began working for the Duck Wall Corporation, subsequently moving around the state to open new variety stores. Jack and Alice made their way to Nebraska in the early 1970's, settling in North Platte, where Jack worked for KNOP-TV selling advertising. He was well-known throughout the community for his humor and antics he brought to his on-screen commercials.
Outside of work, Jack gave a lot of his time to the community--volunteering with Boy Scouts Troop 291, performing at the community theater, serving at the first Christian church, and playing Santa at the mall, which may have been his most favorite of all. He also took pride in his role within the Honor Guard at Fort McPherson National Cemetery.
Jack was blessed with three daughters, Nan Mill of Cheyenne, WY, Jacqueline Wilcox (deceased), and Alicia (Jim) Andersen of Kearney, NE. He also played dad to two grandchildren--Kira (Jeremy) Kautz of North Platte, NE. and Marshall "Dylan" (Morgan) Smith of Port Hueneme, CA.
In addition, he was also the best grandfather to: Rebekah (Kyle) Hambright (South Jordan, UT), Emily (Brian) Longbottom (Cheyenne, WY), Meara (Colby) Kortum (Thornton, CO), and Aspen Mill (Warren, OH); Jeremy Andersen (Kearney), Ayla (Travis) Gregg (Lincoln), Tyler Andersen (Kearney), and bonus grandchildren: Ivan (Raquelle) Londono (Ft. Collins, CO).
Jack was fortunate enough to have many great-grandchildren as well: Xander and Taegan Hambright; Parker, Keagan, Avery and Spencer Longbottom; Laini and Jayden Andersen; Breckyn, Hudson, Alice, and Archer Gregg; Paisley and Roxzen Andersen; Greyson and Kellen Kautz; and Taylor Smith; bonus great-grandchildren: Issac and Nathan Londono. Jack got to be a great-great grandfather to Eli Andersen.
Jack was preceded in death by his parents, his older sister Gloria (stillborn), younger sister Diane Wentworth, and younger brother Michael Wilcox; his daughter Jacqueline Wilcox; and the love of his life, Alice.
Jack's witty humor, laughter, practical jokes, and unwavering love and support were his best attributes and will be greatly missed.
