Gordon Moore

April 16, 1941 — February 11, 2016

Gordon Charles 'Gordy' Moore, age 74, formerly of North Platte, NE, passed away at his home in Lincoln, NE, on Thursday, February 11, 2016.

Gordy was born April 16, 1941, to Paul and Mary Moore at Culbertson, NE where he grew up. Gordy graduated from Culbertson High School in 1958 then joined the U.S. Navy.

After serving 4 years, 3 days in the military, Gordy was honorably discharged. He then returned to Nebraska and trained to become a Journeyman Bricklayer.

On December 24, 1966, Gordy married Joyce Ann Huffman in North Platte where they made their home and raised three children. Gordy worked as a bricklayer most of his life and took great pride in his work. He also worked at the U.S. Post Office later in life for 18 years, until he retired in 2012. Even as he worked at the Post Office, he continued his passion of bricklaying when his skills were needed.

After living in North Platte for 40 years, he and Joyce moved to Lincoln in 2015 to be closer to their children. Gordy liked pitching horseshoes, golfing, watching sports and old westerns, relaxing at home, and spending time with close friends and family.

He was a member of the V.F.W. Post #1504, P.R. Halligan Post #163 American Legion, Eagles Aeries #2839 and B.P.O. Elks #985.

He is survived by his wife, Joyce, of Lincoln; their children, Brett Moore, of Nebraska, Shannon Moore of Lincoln and Danielle (Shane) Gibson, of Overland Park, KS; two granddaughters, Grace and Trinity Moore; two brothers, Roger (Mina) Moore, of California, and Michael (Suzanne) Moore, of Oregon; his sister, Sandra Teel, of Oregon; a niece, Colleen Paine (Andy) Ivazes; four nephews, Kevin (Rachel) Moore, Jeff (Lisa) Teel, Justin Moore and Keenan Moore; and other family.

Gordy was preceded in death by his parents, Paul and Mary; and a niece, Robin Moore.

Cremation was chosen. A Private Graveside Memorial Service with full military honors will be held in Fort McPherson National Cemetery. Condolences may be shared at odeanchapel.com. Odean Colonial Chapel at C & Sycamore is in charge of arrangements.
