G lenn K irkbride, age 98, passed away at his home in Brady, NE, on July 18, 2022.
Glenn was born in Laverna, Saskatchewan, Canada, on July 2, 1924, to Neal and Estella Kirkbride. He moved to British Columbia in 1928 then to Seattle, WA, in 1942 to attend the University of Washington. In August 1943 Glenn enlisted into the U.S. Army. He served until September 1945 and returned to Washington following his discharge.
On April 17, 1948, Glenn was united in marriage to Agnes Shannon in Vancouver, British Columbia. He and his bride, Agnes, lived in Seattle until 2004 when they moved to Birch Bay, WA. They were married for 62 years when Agnes passed away on August 6, 2010. Glenn moved to Brady, NE, in 2021.
Glenn had been a member of Cubbies-AWANA. He loved working with kids, was an avid reader, enjoyed swimming, and liked to journal and do crosswords. Glenn also loved to tell stories about his time in W.W.II and how God saved his life on the day he was shot. One of his greatest joys later in life was going on a Veteran's Honor Flight to Washington, D.C.
Along with Agnes, he was preceded in death by their daughter, Heather Betker; his parents, Neal and Estella; and his siblings, Neal, June, Hope, Martha and Ruby.
Survivors include Glenn's children, Neal (Terry) Kirkbride of Mesa, AZ, Glenn (Tonya) Kirkbride of Tucson, AZ, Barbara (Scott) Woodley of Birch Bay, WA, and Kristen (Joshua) Hagin of Brady, NE; as well as 11 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren and other family.
Graveside services with military honors will be 3 p.m. on Tuesday, August 9, 2022, in Fort McPherson National Cemetery, south of Maxwell, NE. Condolences may be shared at odeanchapel.com. Memorials are to Crossing Fellowship for the Kids Program in Gothenburg, NE. Odean Colonial Chapel at C & Sycamore in North Platte, NE, is in charge of arrangements.
