Gladys Pearl Wisner

Gladys Pearl Wisner, age 99, of North Platte, NE, passed away Wednesday, November 18, 2015, at Centennial Park Retirement Village in North Platte.

Gladys was born May 26, 1916, to Edward Merriam and Pearl Edna Black Robbins on the family farm southeast of North Platte. In 1919 the family moved into town where Gladys attended school and graduated from North Platte High School. She then attended Kearney College and Hastings College, earning her teaching certificate.

Gladys taught at a rural school in Lincoln County until she was married. On July 31, 1938, Gladys was united in marriage to James Russell 'Russ' Wisner of Hastings, NE. They lived on a farm just north of Hastings until the beginning of W.W.II then moved into town where Russ worked for the Railway Express Company. The family later moved to the Robbins family farm near North Platte in 1949 and lived there until Russ passed away in 2007.

Gladys was a member of Valley Christian Church and the Sunshine Extension Club. She enjoyed sewing, playing cards, traveling and solving word search puzzles. Gladys also loved making desserts.

She leaves behind her children, Robin (Carol) Wisner, of Ft. Dodge, IA, Barb Lehmkuhler, of Copperas Cove, TX, and Linda (Marv) Swedlund, of Grand Island, NE; sister-in-law, Carolyn Cullip, of Aurora, CO; and brother-in-law, Richard (Lavina) Wisner, of Hastings.

Survivors also include seven grandchildren, Gary (Tracy) Lehmkuhler, Joan Lehmkuhler and Duane Lehmkuhler, all of Copperas Cove, Donna (Brian) Haferbier, of Ames, IA, Russ (Angie) Wisner, of North Liberty, IA, James Swedlund, of Grand Island and Jason (Amy) Swedlund, of Lincoln, NE; nine great-grandchildren, James Lehmkuhler, of Oklahoma City, OK, Michaela, Cody and Faith Haferbier, of Ames, Sage and Selena Wisner, of North Liberty, and Ethan, Dylan and Regan Swedlund, of Lincoln; a great great-grandson, James Haferbier, of Ames; and other family.

Along with her husband, Russ, Gladys was preceded in death by their son, Roger; her parents, Edward and Pearl Robbins; son-in-law, David Lehmkuhler; three sisters, Zoda Moulton, Ila Florey and Orpha Webb; sisters-in-law, Betty Knapp and Nellie Poore; and brothers-in-law, Don Knapp, Clarence Cullip and Jewit Poore.

Cremation was chosen.  Memorial Service will be 11 a.m., Wednesday, February 24, 2016, at Valley Christian Church with Pastor Brent Montgomery officiating.  Inurnment will follow in the Plainview Cemetery, west of Maxwell.  The memorial book may be signed at odeanchapel.com or from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Tuesday, February 23, at Odean Colonial Chapel at C & Sycamore which is in charge of arrangements. Memorials are suggested to Valley Christian Church.
