Gene Richard Masters passed away at the age of 88, on Saturday, March 25, 2017, surrounded by family.
Gene was the youngest child of Will and Sophia Masters.
After graduating from McPherson County High School, he enlisted in the U.S. Army in 1951 and served until 1954. His service included being in a light tank division in Korea and the atomic testing program in Nevada.
Gene was a member of the P.R. Halligan Post #163 American Legion, V.F.W. Post #1504, D.A.V. and the Oddfellows where he served as Grand Noble for several years.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Will and Sophia; siblings, Benjamin, Lena, Ira, Victor (Virginia), Arbor (Marge), Hollis, Willie (Sue), George and Robert.
Gene is survived by his wife, Sheryl; children, Clark (Mary), Jeanne (Ken), Ira, Sophia (Tim); grandchildren, Phillip, Jake, Luke, Angela, Ashlee, Tyler, Cordelia, Jessica, June and Balthasar; great-grandchildren, Jayden, Molly, Max and Cooper; sisters-in-law, Eunice and Loretta; as well as other family.
Cremation was chosen. Inurnment with military honors will be at 2:30 p.m. on Friday, March 31, 2017, in Fort McPherson National Cemetery near Maxwell. Memorial Service will be 11 a.m. on Saturday, April 1, 2017, at the Church of Christ on Walker Road. The memorial book may be signed at Odean Colonial Chapel at C & Sycamore on Thursday from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m., at the services or online at odeanchapel.com.
