Fred Piel

Fred Piel, Sr., 62, of Hershey, passed away at his daughter's home in North Platte on Sunday, June 14, 2020.

Fred was born to August and Mary Piel on February 12, 1958, at Berwyn, NE, the family later moved to North Platte where Fred spent most of his life. He worked for George 'Tiny' Starr and then met Donna Coplen. Fred and Donna married and welcomed three children, Debbie, Fred, Jr., and Brian, then later divorced.

Fred loved working on cars, playing cards, hunting and fishing, and helping with his grandkids.

He loved his family and will be greatly missed by his daughter, Debbie (Bill) Whelan, and sons, Fred, Jr. 'Ace' (Daniel) Piel Cooper, and Brian (Heather) Piel, all of North Platte; grandchildren, Alexandria Sines, of North Platte, Ericka Piel, of Fremont, Cheyenne Whelan, of North Platte, Malakai Piel, of Gothenburg, Angeleena Piel and Haiden and Lewis Piel, all of North Platte; three great-grandchildren, Liem, Felicity and Elena; brother, Dean Piel, of Kansas; sister, Linda Thiem, of North Platte; special nephew, Joseph Thiem, Sr., of North Platte; and several other family members including his Uncle George Wheeler, of Holdrege, and Aunt Margaret, of North Platte.

Fred was preceded in death by his parents, August and Mary; his fishing and hunting partner, Cousin Willie Wheeler; uncles, Kenneth Piel and Wayne Wheeler; as well as several other aunts and uncles.

Cremation was chosen. Celebration of Life will be held from 1-4 p.m. on Saturday, June 27, 2020, at Debbie's home, 1316 West 10th Street, in North Platte. The memorial book may be signed online at odeanchapel.com. Odean Colonial Chapel at C & Sycamore is in charge of arrangements.
