Franklin Dean Mcharness

Franklin Dean McHarness, 81, of Missouri, formerly of North Platte, NE, died Saturday, August 16, 2014, at the Benton House of Lee's Summit, MO. Frank was born March 21, 1933, to Clarence and Sylvia McHarness in Hayes Center, NE. He grew up in North Platte and graduated from North Platte High School. In 1953 Frank joined the U.S. Army and served until 1955. Following his discharge he returned to North Platte and worked for Bill Willson Photography. On May 18, 1958, Frank married Marjorie Ann 'Marge' Pearson in Shickley, NE and they moved to North Platte where they made their home. Frank worked as a photographer before owning his own studio, Mac Studio. He retired from his business in 1998 then moved to Lee's Summit in 2012 where was active in his assisted living residence, participating in plays and taking pictures. Though photography was his business, it was also his hobby. Frank was a member of the Messiah Lutheran Church, P.R. Halligan Post #163 American Legion and Diamond 'K' Kiwanis. He was also active with the North Platte Woodcarvers. Survivors include his daughter, Julie (Kevin) Crookshank, of Lee's Summit; two granddaughters, Katie (Jeremy) Cunningham and Anne Crookshank; two great-grandchildren, Eli and Ainsley Cunningham; his sister, Lois Cohn, of Hayes, KS; several nieces, nephews, cousins and other family. Frank was preceded in death by his wife, Marge; a daughter, Laurie McHarness; his parents, Clarence and Sylvia; a sister; and two brothers. Visitation will be Tuesday from 8:30 a.m. to 8 p.m. with family greeting friends from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. at Odean Colonial Chapel at C & Sycamore. Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Wednesday, August 20, 2014, at Messiah Lutheran Church with Pastor Tim Eighmy officiating. Cremation will follow the service. Inurnment with military honors will be at 10 a.m. Thursday in Fort McPherson National Cemetery. Condolences may be shared at odeanchapel.com. The family has established a memorial.
