Doyle Gene McIntosh, 91, of North Platte, passed away on May 1, 2026. He was born on January 27, 1935, in North Platte, Nebraska, to George and Wilma Cady McIntosh.
Doyle was active in Scouting during his youth and achieved the rank of Star Scout. He attended NPHS, where he excelled in both basketball and football. In 1952, he enlisted in the United States Air Force, serving his country for four years, followed by an additional four years in the Air Force Reserve.
He was employed by Union Pacific Railroad, where he worked as a switchman, hostler, locomotive fireman, and engineer. Doyle dedicated 30 years to his career before retiring in 1995.
On December 28, 1982, Doyle married his eternal companion, Janet Anderson. They shared 44 wonderful years together and a deep, abiding love.
A lifelong member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Doyle was a devoted and faithful believer in his Lord and Savior. He also had the opportunity to serve at the Winter Quarters Temple.
Doyle was known for his sense of humor and his love of a good bargain. In his younger years, he enjoyed playing pool, finishing fights and was known as a fierce protector of his brother, Ronnie. He spent many hours tinkering and fixing things and enjoyed watching sports. He was proud of his Scottish Highland heritage. He also dearly loved his pets—Teddy, an energetic Yorkiepoo, and his cats, Taz and Kiki.
He is survived by his loving wife, Janet of North Platte; his sons, Doyle (Laura) McIntosh of Veneta, Oregon, Michael (Diana) McIntosh of Sutherland, Rick McIntosh of North Platte, and Derrick (Jennifer) Furse of Gothenburg; his daughters, Tia (Rich) Britten of Brady and Rhonda of Sweetwater, Texas; his stepchildren, Vicki Vigil of Colorado, David (Pam) Vigil of Lincoln, and Brian (Jaci) Vigil of Colorado Springs, Colorado; as well as 24 grandchildren and many great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his brother, Ron McIntosh; siblings Daryl and Marlene, who died at birth; his stepdaughter, Trina Vigil; and his step-grandson, Brett Torres.
