Doris Turner

January 20, 1924 — June 3, 2015

Doris Jeanne Turner, 91, of North Platte, NE, was taken home by her heavenly Father on Wednesday, June 3, 2015, at Great Plains Health in North Platte. Doris was born January 20, 1924, to William Bryan and Gladys Jane Knobel at Julesburg, CO. She graduated from Fairbury High School in 1941 and later taught school in Jefferson County. On June 17, 1942 Doris married Robert Benjamin Turner at Marysville, KS. In 1949 they moved to North Platte where they raised their family and 26 foster children. Doris worked as a finance officer for St. Mary's Hospital for several years and volunteered at the Thrift Connection as well as other places for many years. She was a member of the North Platte Berean Church and attended the Salvation Army Bible Study. Doris enjoyed gardening, loved to read and was a good artist. Survivors include her daughter, Patricia (Marvin) Bartels of North Platte; two sons, Michael Turner, of Scottsbluff, NE and Dennis (Penny) Turner, of Villa Rica, GA; two daughter-in-laws, Paula Turner, of Hayes, VA and Pam Turner, of Wichita, KS; brothers, Harold (Nell) Knobel, of Pueblo, CO and Leland (Susan) Knobel, of Lincoln, NE; 18 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; a great great-grandson; and many nieces, nephews, other family and her friends. Doris was preceded in death by her husband, Robert; two sons, David W. and Robert L. Turner; her infant daughter, Judith Jean Turner; parents, William and Gladys Knobel; a sister, Gertrude Rolland; and three brothers, Daryl, James and John Knobel. Doris donated her body to science. A memorial service will be 11 a.m. Friday, July 24, 2015, at the North Platte Berean Church with Pastor John Stone officiating. The memorial book may be signed at odeanchapel.com or from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Thursday, July 23 at Odean Colonial Chapel at C & Sycamore. Memorials can be made to the North Platte Berean Church or KJLT Radio. Odean Colonial Chapel at C & Sycamore is in charge of arrangements.
