Donald Warren Engel

Donald Warren Engel, 82, passed away on May 28, 2026, at Hilltop Estates in Gothenburg, Nebraska.

Don was born on December 28, 1943, in Columbus, Nebraska, to Roland and Alice Engel. He grew up in Duncan, Nebraska, and graduated from high school in 1962.

He served in the United States Army and graduated from Kearney State College. He married Carol Boukather, and to this union two children were born, Kimberly and Scott. The couple later divorced.

Don had many different careers and jobs over the course of his life and lived in several different states before returning to Kearney, Nebraska, in 1991. He worked at Nelson's Furniture for many years and lived in Kearney until he moved to Hilltop Estates in 2022.

He loved the Huskers and the San Francisco Giants, but his favorite sports teams were those of his grandchildren, and he was their biggest fan. His children and grandchildren were his pride and joy.

Don was preceded in death by his parents, Roland and Alice Engel; his sisters, Ruth Pfeifer and Janice Sperko; and his brother-in-law, Dan Pfeifer.

He is survived by his daughter, Kimberly (Brett) Joneson of North Platte, Nebraska; his son, Scott (Crystal) Engel of Johnstown, Colorado; his grandchildren, Cole Joneson, Caden Joneson, August Engel, and Emmie Engel; his sister, Lois (John) Jacobs; his brother, John (Esperanza) Engel; and several nieces and nephews.

Cremation has been chosen, and a private celebration of life will be held at a later date.
