Dick Beed

Dick Beed, age 74, of North Platte, died at Great Plains Health on Thursday, July 25, 2019.

Dick was born March 14, 1945, to Charles and Fern Beed at Lyons, New York. The family lived in Lyons until moving to Nebraska when Dick was 12 years old, living in the Palmer area.

Dick joined the U.S. Army in 1962 and served three years. Following his honorable discharge, he returned to Nebraska and joined the Job Corp. in Grand Island. His job eventually brought him to North Platte where he met Donneita Dimmitt. The couple married on April 18, 1968, and had two kids, Ricky and Tammy.

Dick went on to work as Foreman for Whitaker Furniture, which later became Erickson Furniture, and was responsible for doing all the furniture repair. He worked until retiring in 2017.

Dick always enjoyed staying busy. He built shadow boxes, liked watching Tammy work in her flower gardens, and enjoyed feeding the birds and squirrels. He especially loved being with his great-grandkids.

He is survived by his daughter, Tammy (Rick) Fletcher, of North Platte; grandkids, Kayla Fletcher, Alisha Fletcher, Brett Fletcher, Charlotte (Jessie) Hazen, Elizabeth (Corey) Hoskins and Jessy Daigger; great-grandkids, Maddie, Kadie and Owen Fletcher, Kaysen Irwen, Jessie, Camie and Lonnie Hazen, and Nakita Hoskins; brothers, Eugene Beed, of New York, Dennis (Delya) Beed and Donnie (Pam) Beed, of Grand Island, Glen (Sue) Beed, of Omaha, Art (Kathy) Beed, of Alda and Elwin (Trish) Beed, of Palmer; sisters, Carol Seim and Carolyn (Jim) Kunze, of Grand Island and Shirley Yerton, of New York; sisters-in-law, Merna Beed, of Fullerton and Bonnie Beed, of Grand Island; and many other family members.

Dick was preceded in death by his son, Ricky Beed; parents, Charles and Fern; brothers, Carl and Duane Beed; sister, Delores and her husband, Doc Landauer; and grandson, Tyler Daigger.

Cremation was chosen. Memorial Service with military honors will be 10 a.m. on Saturday, August 3, 2019, at Odean Colonial Chapel at C & Sycamore. The memorial book may be signed at odeanchapel.com or prior to the service at Odean Colonial Chapel at C & Sycamore, which is in charge of arrangements.
