David Creger

March 16, 1930 — June 9, 2023

D avid C reger, formerly of Curtis, peacefully passed away June 9, 2023, at the of 93, while residing at the Woodlands in Lincoln.

David was born to David and Emma Creger on March 16, 1930, in Tiffin, OH.  The family later moved to Colorado Springs and that is where David met his neighbor and future wife, Mary, and completed high school.  He graduated from Colorado Springs High School in 1948 then enlisted into the U.S. Navy and served from 1950 to 1953.

On December 26, 1953, David was united in marriage to Mary Foster at her family's home in Colorado Springs.  The couple welcomed three children and were married for nearly 69 years when Mary passed away.

When David and Mary began their lives together they moved to Palisade, CO, and farmed peaches.  David eventually went back to school and earned his Bachelor's Degree from Colorado State University in Agriculture Education then later received his Master's Degree from the University of Nebraska at Lincoln.

In 1970 the Creger family moved to Wauneta, NE.  Here Mary and David pursued their teaching careers, she in elementary education and he taught vocational agriculture in the high school. In 1977 they relocated to Curtis where they took similar teaching jobs. David continued working until retiring in 1992.

He was a member of First United Methodist Church, the Garden Club, and was a lifetime member of the Curtis American Legion Post #95.  David enjoyed teaching young people the value of agriculture.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary; young son, Daniel; daughter, Deborah Engell; and his parents.

Survivors include his son, Tim (Joan) Creger of Lincoln;  brother, Joel (Patricia) Creger of Denver; and many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

Services will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, August 19, 2023, at Odean Colonial Chapel in North Platte with Pastor Michael Evans officiating.  Private inurnment will be at a later date in Fort McPherson National Cemetery.  The memorial book may be signed online at odeanchapel.com or prior to services at Odean Colonial Chapel at C & Sycamore, which is in charge of arrangements.  In lieu of flowers, memorials are to the Curtis Methodist Church.
