Darrell Sukraw, formerly of North Platte, passed away at Maple Crest Care Center in Omaha on November 8, 2020.
Darrell was born in Gothenburg on July 9, 1940, to Marvin and Reva Sukraw at North Platte where he grew up. He graduated from North Platte High School in 1959 then went to Kearney State College and later McCook Junior College before enlisting in the military, proudly serving in the U.S. Air Force from 1962 to 1966. In 1967 he received his Associate of Arts Degree from North Platte Junior College.
On August 12, 1962, Darrell married Linda Shearer at the First Evangelical Lutheran Church in North Platte and the couple eventually settled north of town where he had cattle.
Darrell was a hard worker. He worked for the Haythorn Ranch during high school then for the Union Pacific Railroad during college, driving back and forth on the weekends. After his military service, Darrell went back to the Union Pacific working as a Conductor until retiring in 2002. He also spent several years working with his father Marvin and the two owned and piloted a JC3 Piper Cub.
Darrell loved to travel with his family, watch documentaries and read every issue of National Geographic magazine. He learned how to fence with French epees while in the service. He enjoyed hunting and caring for his cattle and horses. He often played chess and Pinocle and was an excellent marksman and mechanic. As he grew older, Darrell enjoyed teaching others the skills he learned. He had a deep faith in God and was a member of the First Evangelical Lutheran Church and American Legion. He also volunteered his time with the Lincoln County Historical Museum.
He is survived by his wife, Linda; children, Erik Sukraw, of Omaha, and Beth (Ron) Bohl, of Phillipsburg, Kansas; grandchildren, Zach (Jessica) Sukraw, of Webster City, Iowa, Nick Sukraw, of Omaha, Lakota Bohl, of Holton, Kansas, and Micah (Luke) Morrow, of Bellingham, Washington; great-grandchildren, Jaxon and Emersyn Sukraw; sister, Marvilyn (Roger) Jones, of Fortville, Indiana; niece, Kathleen Jones; nephew, Matt (Michelle) Jones; great-nephew, Kevin Jones; and other family.
