Carrie Sprague

Carrie Sprague, 91, passed away on September 25, 2026. She was born on August 17, 1935.

Carrie Sprague née Combs was married young and had her first 3 children, Everett (Lee), Teresa and Carolyn. It was one of the hardest things to leave her children from a very difficult situation with her first husband. Then Carrie met the love of her life, Dean Sprague, in Holdrege and they were united in marriage on December 1, 1961, in Kansas City, MO. While living in Kansas City, they had their first two of three children, Scott in Jan. 1961, and Shayne in Dec. 1963. It wasn’t until 1971 when Shannon was born.

Carrie was silly, funny, loving, and had a wonderful soul. So many memories were shared with all who loved her. She grew up in an orphanage. Reports from the orphanage say that she was never a great student, and only finished the 8th grade, but she was a wonderful cartoonist and loved to write poems and share her artistic side. She was never adopted as her brothers were, but ended up with more family than she could have ever imagined. Her blood line includes people in Idaho, Colorado, California, Nebraska, Kentucky, Tennessee, Minnesota, and Ohio.

Even with little education, she contributed to the world through her love of cooking and always made sure everyone had a full belly when they visited her. She will be remembered for her Amish Sugar Cookie recipe as well as her fried shrimp. She gave more time than anything else volunteering in all the church activities and anything else she could do. She blessed every life she touched from working as a waitress, to housekeeping at a large hotel, raising her kids at home and even when she went to the nursing home. She was a light for God brighter than any other.

Carrie was survived by her son P. Scott Sprague, daughters Tami Thurston, Teresa Gabbard, and Carolyn Gabbard; her 17 grandchildren Heather Sprague, Scott Sprague, Chris Sprague, KateLynn Marshall, Kristina Moore, Kragen Ritter, Tessa Pandil, Lacey Sprague, Danielle Kleinow, Everett Lee Bowling Jr, Josh, Brian, Jeremy, Jason, Ricky, Chad and Page; and numerous great grandchildren.

Carrie was preceded in death by her husband Dean Eugene Sprague, her son Shayne Eugene Sprague, her daughter Shannon Marie Sprague-Anderson, and her son Everette Lee Bowling.

There are so many grieving because of how many lives have been touched, as grief is the presence of love with nowhere to go. They will both forever be in our hearts and we will all be together again one day.

Services will be held on Sunday, October 4, 2026, at 1:00 p.m. at Odean Colonial Chapel, 302 S. Sycamore Street, North Platte, Nebraska. Private burial will take place at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made by cash or check to Odean Colonial Chapel.
