Barbara Ann Rasmussen passed away peacefully at her home on November 7, 2025. She was born in Oelwein, Iowa, and was welcomed into the family of Palmer and Gladys Wall. Barbara attended Oelwein Public Schools, where she was a majorette in the band and a member of the dive and swim team.
In 1957, she married John Greco in Oelwein, and together they had four children: Perry, Angi, Amy, and Cammie. In October of 1968, the family moved to North Platte, Nebraska, when John began working for the Union Pacific Railroad. In 1982, Barbara married Harold “Butch” Rasmussen.
For several years, Barbara managed Kentucky Fried Chicken. She enjoyed a long and varied career in retail, and later played an instrumental role in the opening of the new Cedar Bowl and Touchdown Club—both of which she took great pride in designing and managing. She loved meeting people and often shared stories about the customers and staff who brought her joy. Most recently, she worked at Menards, where she remained active and engaged up until her passing.
Barbara loved to travel and was fortunate to see many places around the world, but her favorite place to visit was Memorial Stadium on Saturdays to cheer on the Huskers. Barbara especially loved shopping, decorating for Christmas, and collecting unique items. She had an eye for finding beauty in unexpected places and could turn the simplest item into something special. Her home reflected her creativity and was unmistakably hers.
Even after her passing, her presence remained in the handwritten notes tucked into books, plants she tended with care, family treasures she hid, and the laughter that still echoed in family stories. Each discovery offered quiet proof of how fully she embraced life and how much joy she found in everyday moments.
Barbara is survived by her loving children and their partners: Perry (Gayle) Greco of North Platte; Angi (Kirk) McAndrew of North Platte; Amy (Theresa) Greco of Glen Cove, New York; and Cammie McNeil (Chad McNutt) of Tryon, Nebraska. She is also survived by her grandchildren, their spouses, and fiancés: David McAndrew (Alyssa) of Lincoln; Taylor Sutton of North Platte; Ashley (Matt) Perlinger of North Platte; and Monte “MJ” McNeil (Shelly) also of Lincoln. Her great-grandchildren—Brenley, Chloie, Riley, Zelie and Oliver, all of North Platte, who brought her tremendous joy. She shared many fond memories with her stepsons Randy, Scott, and Mike Rasmussen, and their families. She is also survived by her beloved rescue cat, Sammi, who rarely allowed anyone else near but was always by her side.
Barbara was preceded in death by her parents and by her grandchildren, Abigail and Gabriel.
Though she will be deeply missed, her family finds comfort in knowing she lived with acceptance and grace. She often reminded her loved ones not to worry too much about life, her wisdom, love, and laughter remain everlasting gifts.
In her memory, we invite anyone who wishes to honor Barb to make a donation to the North Platte Animal Shelter, North Platte Pet Food pantry, two causes that reflect her generous spirit.
Cremation was chosen. Celebration of Life will be held in the spring to honor her in the way she would have wanted-with love, laughter, and plenty of stories. Odean Colonial Chapel is trusted by Barbara’s family with arrangements. Online condolences may be shared at odeanchapel.com
