Alfredo Fred Ovalle

June 10, 1947 — September 10, 2025

Alfredo “Fred” Ovalle, 78 years, of Hershey, NE passed away peacefully at home, Wednesday, September 10, 2025, surrounded by his family.  Fred was born June 10, 1947 to Bentura and José Treviño in Pearsall, TX.  He moved to Hershey, NE when he was a young boy.  Fred and San Juana “Janie” Martinez were married on September 8, 1967 in North Platte.  They made their home in Hershey.

Fred served in the Nebraska National Guard in North Platte, being medically discharged in 1966.  He hired on the Union Pacific Railroad in 1969 and retired from there in 2005.  He was a member of the UTU (United Transportation Union).

During the years he was working on the railroad (you know the song), he always shared his homemade goodies with the other crew members.  A highlight of his railroad career was being the engineer on the Atlanta Olympic Train from Omaha to North Platte.

Fred loved sports and the outdoors.  He loved hunting, fishing, dirt track car racing, and watching his Denver Broncos.  He also loved having family over for the 4th of July where he would roast pork and light off LOUD fireworks!  Fred loved helping others and never met a stranger.  There wasn’t anything he wouldn’t do for anyone.

Fred was preceded in death by his parents Bentura and José; a brother Jesus “Chuy” Treviño  and four sisters, Michaela “Mickey” Ureste, Gloria Pérez, Estella Bañuelas and Esther Alvarez.

Fred leaves behind his wife of 58 years, Janie Ovalle, of Hershey; two children, Rochelle O’Valle Martinez of Hastings, NE, and Sam Ovalle (Shelly Kilby), of Kearney, NE; three international exchange student sons Juan (Viviana) of Cali, Colombia South America, Camilo (Diana) of New York, NY and José (Ximena) of Cali, Colombia, South America; six grandchildren, Rudy Rodriguez of North Platte, NE, Marcos Rodriguez (Chad Bittle) of Las Vegas, NV, Marina (Spencer) Campbell of North Platte, NE, Marisol Rodriguez of Holdrege, NE, Pablo Rodriguez (Raven Sanders) of Grant, NE, Ty Monie of Sutherland, NE, and Daniel Ovalle of Kearney, NE; 13 great-grandchildren; and a sister, Mary Ureste of Greeley, CO
