Adelyn Margaret Johnson, formerly of Long Beach, California, passed away on February 22, 2026, in North Platte, Nebraska, at the age of 96.

She was born on January 21, 1930, and was adopted at nine months of age by Mildred (Lundberg) and Erick Johnson. Adelyn was raised on the family farm just outside Wakefield, Nebraska, where she developed a strong work ethic. She enjoyed being actively involved in the farming operation and did her part caring for cows, pigs, chickens, and horses. She drove teams to put up hay and later cultivated corn using the family’s John Deere tractor.

Adelyn was baptized and confirmed at Salem Lutheran Church. It was there that she grew to know Jesus and sought to please Him daily.

She graduated as valedictorian of her senior class in Wakefield and later earned her Bachelor of Arts degree from Wayne State College. Following graduation, she taught school in Nebraska for eight years.

Adelyn later moved to the West Coast and attended California State College in Long Beach, where she earned her Master’s degree. She went on to teach English at Millikan High School for 28 years.

Adelyn was a devoted member of Our Savior Lutheran Church in Long Beach from 1960 until her death. Throughout her lifetime she served faithfully in many positions at the church, where the music ministry held a special place in her heart.

She loved living in the Naples community near Alamitos Bay and stayed active in many ways. Adelyn played in a women’s golf league, rode her bike 36 miles each week, played the piano, painted, gardened on her patio, practiced and performed with her recorder group, and perfected the art of paper marbling. During retirement she also enjoyed traveling, visiting Europe four times.

Adelyn embraced an organized, no-nonsense approach to life and will be remembered for her generosity to the people and organizations she held dear.

When it was no longer possible for her to live independently, she moved to a care home in Nebraska to be closer to family. She was lovingly cared for by the staff at Linden Court for more than nine years, where she was known and respected for her intelligence, strong will, and unabashed personality.

Adelyn was preceded in death by her parents and her cousins, Elaine Dahlgren Turnquist and her husband Robert, and Leola Dahlgren Eberspacher and her husband Don. She is survived by the ten children of Elaine and Leola.
